Hollywood Strike: Studios have offered a new deal to writers on strike

Optimism emerges amidst the Hollywood Strike as studios have come to the bargaining table with making some new offers. Here is everything that you need to know.

Hollywood underwent a significant shift with the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) joining the Writers Guild of America in a recent strike against studios and streamers. The strike’s core demands include improved working conditions, higher wages, job security, increased staffing, and limited usage of AI. Since the Writers Guild of America declared an indefinite strike against studios, Hollywood’s activities have ground to a halt, greatly affecting major film productions. Studios initially offered over $1 billion in compensation to actors before they joined the strike. In attempts to reconcile with the strikers, studios have made further offers.

Here is everything that you need to know:

In response to the strike, Hollywood studios and streamers have extended concessions to screenwriters, addressing concerns about access to viewer data and the use of AI in writing. This offer, reported by Bloomberg, emphasizes that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) ensures writers won’t be replaced by AI and will receive due credit for their screenplay work. Additionally, companies will provide viewing data from streaming services. The striking individuals have also pressed for improved pay, a central aspect of the strike. The AMPTP has responded by proposing an increase in residual payment for writers. This reportedly includes a substantial over-20% raise for works appearing on networks other than the original one. These negotiations offer relief to those participating in the strike. Netflix’s Co-Chief Executive Officer Ted Sarandos and Walt Disney’s CEO Bob Iger emerged as the key figures behind these negotiations, as per reports.” Though the studios have come to the bargaining table, there is still a long way to go before both the parties reach a conclusion.
